Fodor's Names Charleston As One Of The Most Romantic Getaways Around The World

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Charleston has earned another feather in its cap by being named one of the top 15 romantic getaways around the world, according to Fodor's Travel.  With its beautiful downtown mansions, lush green gardens (if not laden with freak polar vortex ice storms....), unbelievable restaurants and night life, it certainly doesn't surprise me.  I have had a love affair with Charleston since I first visited 30 years ago,,,who knew I would end up moving here - certainly not my childhood friends!  Fodor's Top 15 Most Romantic Cities Around the World

If you live in Charleston now or happen to be visiting our romantic city this Valentine's Day weekend and have not made a dining reservation for you and your Valentine yet, it will be next to impossible to get a spot at your favorite romantic restaurant - unless you are willing to sit at the bar for an hour or more, waiting for a table to open.  But, if cooking a romantic dinner is right up your alley, check out this wonderful Paula Deen recipe, appropriately named after our city, which I will be making for my husband because, yes, we waited until this week to try to get a reservation...with no luck. If you have fallen in love with Charleston and are ready to move here, give me a call to help find your new home!  Happy Valentine's Day weekend!

BIG NEWS!! The US Senate Passes Bill to Delay Flood Insurance Hikes

According to the AP:   The Senate has passed a bill to delay premium hikes for years on hundreds of thousands of homeowners who buy flood insurance from the federal government.
The increases threatened to derail the recovery in home sales.
The 67-32 vote reflects widespread concern about changes enacted two years ago to shore up the program's finances. The changes are producing sky-high insurance rates that are unaffordable for many homeowners in flood-prone areas whose insurance has historically been subsidized by the government and other policyholders.
The bill was muscled through the Senate after angry constituents, the real estate and home builder lobbies inundated lawmakers with complaints.
Opponents of the bill say it unravels long-sought reforms of the flood insurance program, which has required numerous taxpayer bailouts and owes $24 billion to the Treasury Department as a result.

Stay tuned as I am sure more details will follow...

8 Reasons Why You SHOULD List Your Home During the Holidays!

How many times have you heard from friends, family or even Realtors that the winter season is slow or no one wants to buy during the holidays? Especially in Charleston's market where new businesses continue to move into Charleston and people are constantly relocating, the real estate market never slows and those buyers, especially, don't take a break from buying as they need to find a home - they are the serious buyers you want.

8. Even though your house will be on the market, you still have the option to restrict showings during the six or seven days around the Holidays.
 7. January is traditionally the month for employees to begin new jobs. Since transfers cannot wait until Spring to buy, you need to be on the market during the Holidays to capture the market.
 6. Some people must buy before the end of the year for tax reasons.
 5. Buyers have more time to look for a home during the Holidays than they do during a work week.
 4. Buyers are more emotional during the Holidays, so they are more likely to pay your price.
 3. Since the supply of listings will dramatically increase in January, there will be less demand for your particular home. Less demand means LESS money for you.
 2. Serious buyers have fewer houses to choose from during the Holidays and less competition means more money for you. And the number one reason why your seller should list during the Holidays …
 1. People who look for homes during the Holidays are more serious buyers!
